October

This year October was full of school, sports, and Halloween festivities.

Luke finished his 8th baseball season (whoa - is that right?) and played another season of soccer at church.  Caleb played soccer again through the church and absolutely loved it!  This was the first season Nate hasn’t had to coach him and it seemed to work out a lot better.  Haha.  There are four baseball siblings who played soccer so we decided to put them on a team together so it would be easier getting back and forth between church and the sports complex on Saturdays for games.  It ended up being so much fun, too!

Here are three of the four little siblings watching baseball before heading over for their own practice and game.

Caleb’s whole team.

We had a photographer friend come out and do baseball pictures for the Nationals instead of paying outrageous prices and getting crappy pictures through the league.  I need to find the rest of the pictures but we just loved this fun team picture of the boys.  They had a decent season but mainly just had lots of fun together.

Caleb’s pre K fall picture.  My cheesy little cowboy.

Now Halloween time!  Luke was John the Baptist, Caleb was Chase and Eli was Marshall from Paw Patrol.

(I was going to try to make Caleb’s costume but when we went to the Halloween store to find a police hat he found this costume and fell in love with it.  I decided it was going to be much easier to buy it there then try to find a brown sweatsuit, etc, to make one myself.

Eli’s costume is Caleb’s old Dalmatian costume repurposed though!

We celebrated at WRBC’s annual Fall Festival.  I love the image of John the Baptist on stage with Pastor Randy, doin’ the twist.

Tuff Stuff sure was cute walking around the Fall Festival with an empty pumpkin and three packages of Smarties in his hand.  He didn’t quite get the whole trunk-or-treat aspect of it.

Halloween night we started a new tradition.  We went to our friends the Walker’s house and had pizza and trick-or-treated in their neighborhood.  All the kids were so adorable in their costumes!
Finley the cat, Ella as Minnie Mouse, John as Luke Skywalker, Emily as Cleopatra, Elise as Princess Leia, Luke as John the Baptist, Caleb as Chase, Eli as Marshall and Cole the puppy.

On the road!  Or rather the sidewalk.

Love.

This is just about the cutest picture ever.  He has never seen the movies before but Woody is one of his favorite toys!

Cake Bandit

This weekend we went to Emmett to celebrate Nate’s grandmother/the boys’ great grandmother’s birthday.  It’s always fun to get as much of the family together as we can.  The kids loved running around Nate’s aunt and uncle’s house playing with their cousins.  Plus they have a stock tank with huge catfish practically in their backyard.  That was a big hit.  And stressful trying to make sure Eli didn’t go swimming with the fishies.

He forgot about the pond pretty quickly once he found the cake.

This child is the most stubborn, the most independent, the most destructive, and the most spirited of all our Stroder boys.  Good thing he might be the cutest and the funniest to ensure his survival.

And now with some of her great grandchildren!

DestrucTuff

Oh this kid.  He is such a mess.  And he MAKES such a mess.  He really does not like it if all the books are filed neatly on the bookshelf.  Nothing can stay in place longer than a few minutes when this baby is around.

Caleb’s 1st Family Portrait

At least - the first that I have seen!

He clearly inherited my artistic abilities.

Definitely Related!

I posted a this picture on Facebook yesterday of my sister, my cousin, and me with Ann Reinking after watching her in Bye Bye, Birdie at the Dallas Summer Musicals in Fair Park in 1991.  Afterwards I started thinking and I realized I was almost Luke’s exact age in the picture.  So that prompted a quick comparison...

I think we are related.

Gumball Face

This child is a total mess! Somehow he found the bag of gumballs his brothers bought at Luke's game last weekend. When I found him he had two gumballs in his mouth, one in his hand, and had smeared yellow, green, and orange all over himself and the floor. He was very unhappy when I fished the gum out of his mouth and his hand and threw it all in the trash.

More Teeth

Another update on the losing and gaining of teeth going on in our home.

After a nine month dry spell, Luke has lost two teeth in three weeks. He pulled #5 (bottom right of his two middle) on August 18 and #6 (top right of his two middle) yesterday, September 5. The tooth wolf was late coming to pick up #5 and he must have felt bad because he left five gold dollar coins. He was on time last night and left a crisp $1 bill.

Eli has all four one year molars now. I really don't know dates they came in. I know they weren't there at 15 months (July 22) but were at 16 months (August 22). So somewhere in there.

And like last time Caleb hasn't lost any teeth and has all his teeth (for now). Poor middle child.

Pre K!

The day that Caleb has been waiting for is finally here...his first day of pre k!

He has been so excited about starting pre k since his three year old class ended in May. Almost everyday this summer he asked me how much longer he had to wait. He was beyond ready!!

We had a rough morning after we got Luke dropped off...all because I was trying to convince him to wear a different cowboy shirt. I'm not sure why he thinks the cowboy shirt he got for his birthday is the only cowboy shirt he can wear. Never mind the fact that he is wearing the EXACT same thing in his bday pics and last day of school pics...sigh.

We are picking up Elizabeth again this year!!

He's so excited to have Mrs. Jessica this year!

Flashback for Caleb...three years of first days of ridge kids!

3rd Grade!

Luke's 1st day of school was last Monday (Aug 24)!  This summer flew by so fast. I think that's the first time since I became a mom that I have felt that way. We had so much fun this summer that it was hard to see it end.

But it did.

Thankfully he had a much smoother first morning than last year. (I'm still scarred from that morning!)  He reminded me when he came downstairs that I always make him pancakes for the 1st day breakfast (oops) so I got to work. We managed to get everything done and be ready to leave when Nate got home to drive us to school.

3s for 3rd grade!

Traditional pics...

When I went to print his sign the night before my black ink was out. Oops. So we improvised and he held my iPad.

I'm so thankful that Nate is able to come
home the morning of the first day to drive us to school. There is something about the traffic and parking at WBE that stresses me OUT. I wouldn't be able to handle it if I had to drive on the first day.

We made it to school and to his classroom. His teacher this year, Mrs. Price, seems super nice and it seems like he has a good group of kids in his class. I think 3rd is going to be a great year for him!

{seven days down and he is loving it. of course he was the first kid in the 'sweet seat' in class because he always holds the door open for his classmates. yesterday he was so excited because he got to move his clip up twice in one day - the max number of times available. typical Luke charming his way through 3rd grade.}

Flashback...
Four years of first days of elementary school. I get a mild panic attack thinking that he only had one more of these to take...

Fun at the Ballpark! {finally}

The big boys and I just got home from a Rangers game and I'm too wired from a fun night to go to sleep! I want to capture all my memories without blasting Facebook...so here we go.

A few nights ago a friend texted Nate to say that he had five tickets available for tonight's game - did we want them? I immediately said yes. We have not been to a game as a family and all sat together in a long time, so what a great opportunity! And Eli hasn't even been to a game this year. (Times have definitely changed around here - this was only Luke's 3rd game this season and Caleb'a 2nd!) Anyway we jumped at the chance.

Fast forward to today when Nate wasn't feeling well and didn't think he could make the game. Rather than the tickets go to waste, the big boys and I decided to go to the game with Mammie and Boppa. Eli stayed home with Nate. It doesn't look like Tuff is going to make a game season, poor third child.

Luke and Caleb were very excited about getting to go, though. We ended up with two jerseys of current players that fit them both so it was perfect. Of course Caleb had to wear a full baseball ensemble, complete with baseball pants, red belt, red socks, and cleats. The whole time he was getting dressed he was exclaiming, "I'm so excited to get to be a real Ranger player!"

Well. There was one thing that we didn't really know about when we agreed to the tickets. The Cowboys were also playing at home tonight.

Of course the parking pass we had was a valet pass. Which is super cool except when there is crazy football traffic around the Ballpark. I spent most of the drive up there cursing the Cowboys and wishing we had the normal pass that is so easy to get to and park. But we got there eventually - it only took us twice as long to get there than normal. But we were in our seats - which were amazing - by 6:30 pm so it was all good.
(I lost count of how many times I heard both of them say how excited they were to go to a game!)

I texted Nate to find out who was on Rangers Live. When he said Pudge, the boys and I hightailed it to the Captain Morgan Club to watch and try to get a Pudge autograph. Dad and I went to a game in June and went out there and he only autographed for kids. I was fully okay with using my own to my advantage.

My pic with Pudge...haha.

Let's just say I was totally out of character out there, but they got the autographs! I asked the security guard if he thought there was a chance they would be in the line for autographs. So he made sure they were. But they were behind some tall kids and I couldn't stand with them so when Pudge came by it looked like he was going to completely miss them. (More big kids who hadn't been waiting patiently like my boys stepped in front of them and that was not okay!)  That's when I started calling out to Caleb, who was the only one I could see, to move up to the front. Caleb, being Caleb, had no idea what was going on and started going around the crowd to get back to me. At this point I'm yelling, "Caleb! Go that way!" The details get a little blurry after this, but the security guards ended up asking if Luke was Caleb and then grabbing Caleb and getting him up next to Luke. Pudge signed his ticket and a Rangers helmet that an Orioles fan gave us while we were waiting. Apparently all this went down during the national anthem and I had no idea until I said "thank you Pudge", not realizing why it was quiet. I annoy myself sometimes. BUT they got autographs from Pudge so the humiliation was worth it.

I was going to get pics of them holding their autographed items in front of the Rangers Live set but then we realized Mark McLemore was coming toward us. So they got Mac's autograph, too, and I didn't have to make a fool out of myself for that.

Success!!!

Cute boys.

We made it back to our seats as the first batter grounded out. And other than a trip to buy nachos and a trip to the bathroom, we didn't leave the seats until the end of the game! It was the first game I have been to with Caleb that he sat there, watched the game and was interested in the outcome, cheered for the players, and was SO GOOD. Luke has always been like that at games, so it was fun to experience that with Caleb, too. His favorite part was whenever Prince Fielder came up to bat. He would get so excited! It's so funny how he has decided he loves Prince. Our one "hiccup" was his full blown meltdown when the Red Dot won the race, while his big brother was full on spazzing about the whole thing.

Full body pic of the Mini Nap

Selfies with my sweets...

Mammie bought them a lemon chill to share in the 7th inning. The game was going fast and she was hoping it would help them make it through the end.

It had an alternate affect and a few minutes later Caleb was sound asleep in my lap. Caleb is my only kid who can fall asleep anywhere and sleep through anything. He slept through the end of the 8th inning, a loud top of the 9th, all the cheers when the game was over - and we won!!! - the walk to the valet stand, waiting for the car, the drive home, and the transfer to his bed.

Rangers win!

I was cursing the Cowboys on the drive home as well. Leaving the valet stand I had to go around the stadium to get home and it was a pain! But looking back it wasn't too bad considering...although in our normal spot it would have taken the amount of time to get home that it did to get out of traffic.

Anyway...it was a super fun night with my oldest two boys!

Handsome

Since 2012 I have managed to get a good picture of the boys every August.  I don't know what August has to do with it, but that's when it happens.

This morning was promotion Sunday at church. Luke moved to the "drive in" for the 3rd grade class and Caleb moved to the 4 year old class. (Eli stayed in the toddler room). They all looked so I figured this morning was as good a time as any.

Except Luke refused to wear his boots to church, Caleb was thirsty and mad that I was taking his picture instead of getting him a drink, and I had to snap pictures super fast before Eli took off running.

This is what we ended up with.

And here are the ones from the past years...

Tubes.

Eli got tubes today!
Yay!!

The child has had an ear infection (or a double ear infection) every three to four weeks since December 30, 2014. We put off going to the ENT in April because we were hoping the end of cold/flu season meant his ear infections would die down. Well they didn't. He has had four since that conversation.

After a particularly awful double infection over Father's Day weekend (he was up all night Saturday night before both ear drums ruptured early Sunday morning), we decided enough was enough. We were at the ENT the next week.

Unfortunately the ENT we chose to use was booked for the month of July and the earliest we could get in was August 6th. So we went with it, even though I figured he would end up with another infection. And he did - twice.

But that is all in the past now because the tubes are IN. He did great before the surgery started. He only threw himself on the ground and fussed twice because he did not like the feeling of his hospital "anklet" while he walked. While they got him ready to go and talked with us about the anesthesia and procedure, he just wanted to play with the pulse ox meter (or whatever they are called).  When the anesthesiologist took him from me, he didn't even cry - just looked at us like okay, let's get this party started.

Everyone said it would be super fast but you really don't believe it until it happens. We walked to the waiting room, sat down, I read the pamphlet about the after care (nurse's instructions), had a conversation with Nate about ear plugs,  and looked at my phone to see the time. It was exactly 7:00 AM. His doctor was out there talking to us at 7:03 AM.  Our friend Sara was his recovery nurse and she was out to get us right after that.

We had been warned that when he came out of the anesthesia he would have the biggest fit of his life. Not from pain, more just confusion and misunderstanding about what just happened. We were able able to go home by 7:20 AM. I was very surprised and impressed with how quickly Baylor got us in and out of there, but we didn't feel rushed or anything.

They were right about the fit - he was extremely unhappy until 8:00 AM. And then he was fine. And he has been fine the rest of today!  Now you wouldn't be able to tell he had surgery this morning.

I really didn't get any pics except this one with his hospital "anklet" that he despised.

Mowing with Daddy

Quite possibly my favorite of all three of them.

Brothers

The theme of the summer. This happens multiple times a day.

The boys are "playing". There's always a crash...followed by an "owwwwww!" from either one of them...followed by either "I didn't do it!" or "It's not my fault!" from the other one.

You know what though? 99% of the time they did do it or it is their fault.

15 Month Visit

Stats:
Weight - 24 lb 2 oz
Height - 31 inches

Eli had his 15 month well visit yesterday. It's crazy to think that a year ago Eli was in the less than 10th percentile for height and weight, and now he's 75th for weight and 45th for height. I'm so glad he's getting some chunk to him; he was so scrawny for a long time!

The rest of his visit was good. He's so used to the doctor (thanks to his 10 ear infections this year) that he has no problem getting checked out. The doctor got a kick out of the fact that when he put Eli down watch him walk, he just stood there with a coy look on his face. He had to give him a little boost to get him to walk to me. Then he walked to the middle of the room, sat down and looked at us like "now what?"

His only "issue" is the fact that he doesn't say words. He had way more words at 12 months. He no longer says dog, bye bye, or night night. He is more visual than vocal - he signs more, please, hello, good bye, and night night now.  It isn't that he is quiet - he babbles and squeals all.the.time. Just not coherent words or sounds that make any sense. The only word he says consistently is Mama. And he says something that sounds like Aflac when he sees his stuffed duck. (I have never heard Dr. Daniels laugh so hard before).

(Although today we came in from out front and I am positive he said "Dah see" when he saw Daisy. But he didn't say it again.)

It is obvious he understands us when we tell him to come here, or stop, or get something, for example. The doctor isn't worried about it, and said we would see what he is like at 18 months.

Part of me wonders how much of it is just birth order. Luke had tons of words at 15 months, Caleb didn't have as many but he had more than five. He at least knew animal sounds. Other than a dog I don't know that Eli even recognizes or cares about animals. I need to step up my game once the bigs are back to school and we are on our own again. (Who am I kidding?!)

Other notable things about Eli at 15 months...
*he loves to run
*he loves to swim
*he loves to tackle his daddy
*he loves ro snuggle his mommy
*he loves his brothers (all smiles when he sees them)
*he loves to crawl up AND down the stairs
*he loves to dance to Tim McGraw's "Shotgun Rider"
*he loves his blanket (our little Linus)
*he loves veggie chips & hummus (one of the few things he will eat)
*he loves the fire truck car handed down from the Rombergs
*he does not love loud noises (like the vacuum, blender, lawn mower, etc.)
*he drinks from a sippy cup, finally
*he is cutting four molars
*he is getting tubes August 6th
*he has the greatest laugh
