...here is Luke singing "The Star Spangled Banner":
I love his singing and the way he still muddles up some of the words. I love the way he belts it out. And I really love his little brother in the background, rocking out. This video captures so much of my two - Luke, who loves to perform and sing and be in the spotlight; and Caleb, who is just all over the place and crazy about his big bro.
What I really love, though, is the PLAY BALL at the end!

Tooth #3!
I noticed this morning that Caleb's 3rd tooth made its way through his gums! It's his bottom right central incisor, so he finally has a bottom tooth. And just about 10 days after tooth #2 came in, so maybe he is making up for lost time!

Surgery Day.
Luke had his first ever surgery today, at five years and two weeks old.
Almost three months ago, we were at a routine sick visit with his pediatrician when Dr. D looked down at the back of his head and said with surprise, "Oh! He has a nevus sebaceous back here. We need to get y'all in to have it removed."
It was a shock considering we were told at his birth that the bald spot on the back of his head was a birth defect that we could choose to have removed or not. But it turns out that it has changed since birth, and if it isn't removed before puberty, there is a chance that it could grow basal cells. So we were referred to a plastic surgeon in Fort Worth.
We decided to wait until school was out, and let him get through his birthday, so this week was the week that worked the best for us. We had to be at Texas Pediatric Surgery Center at 7:30 AM. We were taken back almost immediately, but then waited for about an hour and a half before he was wheeled away for surgery.
One last pic of the "bald spot".

Waiting with Inch and Mickey in his gown.

We had to wait so long that he got tired of sitting in the bed by himself, so he and Daddy snuggled while we watched Kung Fu Panda.
He was given 'giggle juice' to help calm any nerves and make it easier when he was taken away from us. He went from super serious to very smiley.
On his way back...that is the anasthesiolgist taking him. She let him push the button to open the door, and he was so focused on that that he didn't even notice Nate and I weren't following him.
Nate and I went back to the waiting area until we were called back to talk to Dr. Schuster, the plastic surgeon. He told us that everything went great, and that he was able to get the whole thing. There was a chance that we would have to come back for another surgery, so this was great news. They had to shave that part of his head to see it all, and there was a little finger of it sticking down so it ended up being wider/longer to remove, but it all worked out. He closed it up with staples and wrapped up his whole head in a bandage. He said he looked like a "human Q-tip". He said we have to keep the bandage on until our follow up appointment NEXT Thursday. This will be difficult!
After that, we went back to the waiting area until they came to get us when he was starting to wake up. We went in and his eyes were open, but he was really out of it. The two nurses in with him were gushing about how they loved him, how adorable he was, and that he was doing really great. He looked at us and said, "what happened?!", followed by "where were you??!!" Then he whispered something jibberish to me, which sounded very serious even though I couldn't tell what he was saying, and then fell asleep. We could tell he didn't feel like himself because he barely touched his popsicle!

Mickey & the Human Q-Tip. {Mickey was like this when we got back there.}
He woke up long enough to get to the car, but was instantly asleep.

He slept through the ride back to Mansfield, slept through me running into Target to drop off the presciption for his pain meds, slept through us driving through the Taco Casa drive thru, and slept through Nate carrying him inside to his bed. He woke up a couple hours later and came out to the living room, only to go right back to sleep on my lap.

This afternoon has been a little rough. He woke up when my parents brought Caleb home, but while they were here he had to throw up. After that we got him settled with some Sprite and a Popsicle since he was complaining of being thirsty and hungry. Then he threw up again after we gave him some banana and his pain medicine. He's back to sleep on my lap again now. I'm hoping that he feels much better tomorrow. We have strict directions to take it easy for the next week so we will be hanging around the house...hopefully he doesn't get too stir crazy!

Tomatoes, Helicopters & Taco Casa
Luke loves to help in my parents' garden, but I do not have the patience or desire to plant one here at our house. So we compromised and got a tomato plant. He goes out everyday to water it, and he was so excited to find one ready to pick on Father's Day.

A helicopter landed at church that day. It was for the kickoff of VBS because the theme was Sky. We got there early enough to watch it land, and then got to take a look inside. Luke was so excited to get to sit in a real helicopter.

Caleb tried to get in it himself.

With it being Father's Day, Nate requested his favorite "restaurant", Taco Casa, for dinner. The boys love it, too; although Caleb wears more of his bean burrito sometimes.
Playing peek-a-boo with napkins.

13 months
Caleb's 13th month brought some changes. He started walking and got another tooth! His first consistent steps started on June 5th, and as of this weekend I'm going to call him a walker. He still crawls at times, when he's feeling lazy I guess, but for the most part, he tries to walk. He falls a lot, but he gets right back up and tries again. It's so cute to see him walking around the house. It still surprises me at times, like when I'm in the kitchen and he walks in I do a double take. He does the forward Heisman as he walks, which we all find hilarious. He holds his right arm out straight in front of him and bends his left arm. I've been trying to get a pic of it, but so far hasn't happened.
Tooth #2 came in officially on June 15...it's the front left top tooth. He looks a little ridiculous with two top teeth and nothing on the bottom, but what can you do? These bottom teeth are taking their sweet time.
Caleb's turing into a little toddler right before our eyes. He loves hanging with the big kids and gets very excited when he's "included." We love story time at Chick-fil-a, and last week he wanted down on the mat with the other kids. It was adorable while it lasted. He no longer gets a bottle, and really enjoys his milk in his sippy cup. He eats peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for lunch. He is getting so big, so fast!

Father's Day at the Lake
FINALLY a trip to the lake. Nate really wanted to get his family together on the boat for Father's Day so we made it happen! The boys were already down there for Friday night, so we hauled the boat down Saturday morning. We took the five older kids with us on the boat and left the two little boys with Nana and Daddy Matt. We had a blast! Luke loved having his cousins, aunts and uncles on the boat. Nate and I loved finally getting to wakeboard again for the first time in two years! It was just a great day.

The spedometer wasn't working, so handy-dandy Nate fixed it in the middle of the lake.

I don't have any pics of it, but Luke attempted to water ski for the first time! He said he wanted to, but neither Nate nor I thought he'd really get out there and try but he did! The first time he tried to stand up before Nate had even started moving the boat. The second and third times he just didn't get the hang of it. I'm not sure if he has enough strength in his legs yet. But we were so proud and impressed that he tried at five years old! He keeps asking us when we are going to the lake again so he can try again. :)
Austin skiied and kneeboarded. Hayden tried to ski but didn't quite get it. He doesn't like getting water in his face so he wasn't too thrilled about the whole thing. Kennett was so nervous about just getting in the water at first so we considered it a victory when he got in the tube with Luke. Karlee was happy as can be swimming in the water, but she had no interest in doing anything but that and lounging on the boat.

When all the kids had had enough, they went back to the house and the "big kids" came out. I'm so thankful that Nate's sisters took Luke back and were willing to help out with both boys so I could stay on the boat. I got to wakeboard some more, and also double skiied with Hannah which is always fun. And it sure is entertaining to watch Nate, Sam and both Jakes wakeboard.

Since Sarah's Jake was there, he drove the boat so I could actually watch Nate wakeboard, which I love. I don't understand how he can go two years without doing something and make it look like he's been doing it the entire time, but whatever. I hope he passed that on to my kids.
We thought he was falling...
But he didn't! Amazing!
After the lake, Nate had to do a call before he could go home. His work truck was at the shop, so we drove there to pick it up and then I had to drive the truck and boat home AND park them in the driveway. It was nervewrecking, so of course I had to take a picture of it.

8 Years!
We celebrated our 8th anniversary where it all began...the Ballpark. I can't decide if it's cool or pathetic that two momentous occasions in our lives revolve around that place. We'll go with cool.
Since Luke was puking on our anniversary, and his birthday was the next day, we decided to pretend that we got married on June 15th, at least this year. The boys went home with Nate's dad after work and we went to the game for a date. I can't remember the last date we had. It was awesome. We ate at the new Captain Morgan club in center field {yum!} and just enjoyed being at the game without our kids. After being at the game with Caleb two days before, we REALLY enjoyed not having to chase him around.
It was a great game to watch, too; the Rangers ended up scoring five runs in the fifth inning and we won the game, 6-2. Yay!
One of Nate's co-workers was sitting a few sections over, so we had her take a picture of us. Have we changed at all in the last eight years?

Luke's Birthday Game
Every year we have gone to a baseball game for Luke's birthday. Even the year he was born! It started as our anniversary tradition, but has evolved to be his birthday game. This year the Rangers were out of town on his birthday {the nerve!} so we waited a week and went on June 13.

We traded in season tickets and ended up sitting in the all you can eat seats. We were excited to try those out, and I was even more excited that we wouldn't have to pay any extra for food! It turned out to be an interesting game. Our seats were on the 3rd row, about two rows in front of where you are covered by the awning. And of course, it started raining. Luckily the old TGI Friday's restaurant is now open for all you can eat food, so we ran upstairs and found a table to watch the game on TV. It ended up being rain delayed for about 30 minutes. We couldn't leave early because we HAD to stay for the Legends race. So we chased Caleb around, fished old peanut shells and popcorn kernels out of his mouth a million times, and ate lots of food. I lost count of how many things of nachos Luke had, and how many Dr Peppers Nate had. We also had hot dogs, I had a chicken sandwich, and lots of peanuts and popcorn. We ate our money's worth, that is for sure!
When it finally stopped raining and we could go back to our seats, Luke and I headed down. Nate had to corral Caleb and ended up just walking around the Ballpark with him. The Rangers were batting and Luke started cheering for each batter. "Let's go, Kinsler, let's go!" clap, clap clap. He ended up getting our entire section cheering and clapping with him. He was SO pumped. Unfortunately, the Rangers got three outs quickly even with the cheers, but then a guy from the next section came over and gave Luke a ball! It has a grass stain on it so it must have been from batting practice. All the people around us just loved him, it was hilarious! And he ate up all the attention. What a great memory for his birthday game.

Mammie's Birthday
On the way. My car was out of commission, so we rocked Daddy's truck. All five of us!
This captures my life right now perfectly.

Bee stopped by on her way to work to soak up some extra Caleb grins.
Luke loves to help in the garden. He was thrilled to get to pick lots of tomatoes.

Caleb was getting the hang of walking by himself and loved going through every row in the garden.

Caleb was mesmerized by the fish in front of Benihana.

Family pic.

After dinner we went back to the house for presents and cake

Whatever little patience Caleb had left when he saw the cake. He attacked Boppa for it.
