Mastering the Hula Hoop
We can thank the Wii for Luke's random obsessions - boxing, tennis, bowling, tight rope walking, soccer ball heading, and hula hooping. He has been working very hard to master the hula hoop in real life. As of this morning, he's done it! He's not perfect every time, but more often than not he does a great job. And he is SO proud of himself, too!

I'm drawing Luke's bath tonight and I actually remembered to grab the bubble bath I ordered for him. I put it in the water without him realizing what I was doing. When he saw all the bubbles, his jaw dropped.
"I get to have a bubble bath?!"
"You sure do!"
"Mom, you're the coolest!"
I melted into a puddle in the floor of the bathroom.

He woke up from his nap yesterday running fever and looking pitiful. He looked exactly the way he did three weeks ago when he came down with strep throat. I immediately called the pediatrician and we had an appointment about 30 minutes later. Flu test was negative (thank God) but he was positive for strep. Lovely.
Last night I was snuggling with him before bed and I said, "Why don't we pray and ask Jesus to make you feel better?" He agreed and we held hands while I prayed for him. After I said, "Amen" he threw his arms around my neck and said, "Thank you, Mom!" <3
Then this morning he came running into my room yelling, "Mom! My throat doesn't hurt anymore! Jesus made me ALL better!" Double <3.

The main thing that we do while driving these days is pick a letter and try to spot things that start with that letter. The majority of the time is spent with Luke trying to convince me that tree starts with the letter B or something random, but every once in awhile he gets it right - sign starts with S, or whatever. I give him praise when he is right and correct him when he's just not quite there. But whenever I see something that starts with the letter - light starts with L, for example - he cheers, "GREAT job, Mom! What a great guess!"

Sunday was a gorgeous day so we spent late afternoon/evening outside with the neighbors. Luke, Joshua and Coy were all playing baseball - or rather hitting the ball that Nate pitched to them. At one point during Coy's turn, Luke crouched down behind him and held his hand out like he was wearing a glove. Then he shouted, "Come on, Dad, throw a strike to Pudge!"
I love him. :)

The Crazy Winter Weather
also known as the week we didn't leave the house...
The weather guys had been warning us for days that we would be experiencing record level cold temps, along with a mixture of ice/sleet/snow beginning on Tuesday, February 1st. I remained in denial...most of the time these weather guys are overly dramatic. I figured it would be cold, but really did not expect the ice. So much that I didn't even go to the store on Monday to get groceries, I fully intended on going Tuesday while Luke was at school.
Mother Nature proved me wrong.
Tuesday morning at 4 AM I was shocked out of a deep sleep to the sounds of sleet beating the bedroom windows. Add some thunder in there, too. It was LOUD. I didn't get back to sleep it was so loud. By the time it stopped at 7 AM, all the schools were closed and a thick sheet of ice covered the roads. (It didn't help that it had started raining the night before). Nate went to work, of course, and Luke and I prepared for a snow day. We headed outside early to check it out, knowing that the temperature would just be dropping steadily throughout the day. The white stuff on the ground was pure ice. Not much fun if you don't have ice skates! It took us longer to bundle up than we stayed out.
But he sure looked cute, especially in those silly ski goggles he insisted on wearing.
We came in and I built my first fire in the fireplace. Then I had a stroke of genius and decided to blow up the air mattress so we could lay by the fire and watch movies all day. It was a brilliant idea. I didn't realize it would be blown up all week...
We spent most of the day lounging/playing on the mattress. We watched a lot of PBS Kids, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Toy Story. I even napped on the mattress in front of the fire while Luke napped in his room. It was a lazy day, and that night we ate potato soup. The Rombergs came over for dinner so at least the kids got to play and work off some pent up energy. By dinnertime we learned that schools were closed again on Wednesday because of the ice. Made sense considering the temperature didn't get above 20 degrees on Tuesday. Nothing was melting.
Wednesday we actually left the house. Nate picked Luke and me up that morning and took us to Dr. Z's office for our 24 week appointment. All is well with baby Green Dot and it was sooo nice to get ready and leave the house, even if it was only for an hour. After he dropped us off back home, we spent the day playing games on our mattress in front of the fire. And we watched Ice Age 2, plus more Little Einsteins and PBS Kids. We ventured out again that night after Nate got home - we had to get to the grocery store! We also stopped at Trio Pizza & Pasta for dinner. It was a nice break from the house, thank goodness for the four wheel drive! The roads were still pretty bad - I've never seen so much ice here. The worst part was the parking lots! I was so nervous that I would slip and fall right on my belly.
It was cold.
Needless to say, schools were closed again Thursday. By this point, we were over laying around watching movies. The dogs were even going stir crazy. I copied an idea from a friend and filled up my bathtub and let Luke go "swimming". He loved it. He swam in the morning and in the evening. I got a lot of laundry and other cleaning done around the house after two days of doing virtually nothing.

Thursday night the weather guys announced that more snow was headed our way and we would get less than an inch overnight. Schools were closed AGAIN, for the fourth day in a row.
We woke up this morning to a good 4-6" on the ground.
Nate went in to work but promised he would be home at lunchtime. Luke wanted to wait for Daddy to go outside and play in the snow. Thankfully Nate was home by 11:45 (yay!!) so we ate a quick lunch and went out to play.
Daisy stayed inside by the fire while we headed to the easement behind our house to make snow angels and throw snowballs at each other.
Lily was so happy to get out and run around. This crazy short haired dog loves the snow! Nate was throwing snowballs for her to chase and she ended up fetching them. It was hysterical!
Green Dot was there, too, he just didn't realize it.
When we were cold and tired, we came back in to take naps. Nate and the dogs are taking advantage of the mattress and the fire while I type this post.
Tonight we are going next door for chili and cornbread. I can't wait to get out of the house. I don't know what the weekend holds but hopefully we'll be able to get out and do stuff tomorrow. The temperature is supposed to climb above freezing for the first time since Monday and the sun is already out right now so maybe some of this will melt away and we can resume our normal lives!
