Great Pumpkin Carnival
Luke and I spent Saturday in Dallas with my parents and Beth (Nate and Justin were both hunting.) Last weekend when Nate and I were going to the Extreme Makeover watching party, we drove past my old preschool and I noticed that their annual Great Pumpkin Carnival was going to be on Saturday. I thought it would be fun to take Luke to, especially because I remember going when I was little.
It was scaled back from what I remember, but Luke still had fun. In typical Luke fashion, it took him awhile to warm up to everything. My mom said I was the exact same way. He finally did warm up and had fun playing games, doing a train ride, and he even got in the bounce house designed for toddlers - ALL BY HIMSELF!!

Luke's favorite game was fishing. He was a bit timid at first, so Boppa had to help him while Mommy took pictures.

Luke also liked the ghost bowling game (bowling pins decorated to look like ghosts).
Boppa even got him to get in the toddler bounce house! Beth remarked that maybe he just needs to stay away from me. She may be onto something there.
A clown made him a balloon animal that he thought looked like a green Daisy.
Luke and I rode in a train around the parking lot. We're in the car that looks like a tree house.

After the train ride, Luke wanted to do the fishing game again. This time he didn't need any assistance.
Finally, Luke wanted to slide down the big slide...but he needed Mommy to go with him. That was fun and exciting. (Note the sarcasm.)
The carnival was fun for Luke, but the neatest part to the rest of us was seeing a teacher that Beth and I both had when we were three years old. She was one of my favorites, and I hadn't seen her since I left the school in 1989. Mrs. Patti is still with the preschool today.

Preschool Update
Luke has been in school for seven weeks now and so far everything is going great. I love the program, I love that it is at our church, I love his teachers, and I love having 11 hours to myself each week!
Luke comes home from school talking about doing "art", "music", "playground", "bubbles" and "stretch-n-grow". He talks about "Ms. Kim" and "Ms. Mandy" on a daily basis. He asks me to sing the "bubble gum song" and the "alligator song" all the time so I had to look them up on You Tube to learn the words. He now sings the first two lines of "Jesus Loves Me" by himself. His vocabulary is growing so much faster now, and he seems to FINALLY get his colors, where as before he'd just guess what color something was. And on Tuesday he started talking about some of his friends in his class. He kept asking me where "Travis", "Ava" and "Zachary" were. His teachers tell me all the time what a sweet, smart boy he is and Lord knows I can't hear that enough! :)
We have had a few issues that I hope are almost worked out. The first one is him having meltdowns when I drop him off. They started out small, but have got increasingly worse as time has gone by. He always calms down very quickly once he is in the room and away from me, but it is heartbreaking hearing your child scream, "I want Mommy!" when you're trying to pass him off to someone else. Tuesday was the worst of it...but guess what. Ms. Mandy set him down to do a puzzle while he was still crying and it was like someone flipped a switch and he was TOTALLY fine in an instant. We learned right then and there that he was just messing with me. So today when I dropped him off and he started to get upset, I got stern with him and said, "That's enough, you are fine, go into class and stop crying." (This was after I'd given him a hug and told him I loved him.) And he hardly cried and by the time I left he was playing with blocks in the floor with some other kids.
The other thing that has been hard is he will not go potty at school. He just holds it all day. He wears a Pull Up at naptime and they said that most of the time, he is dry after nap. I have been at a loss about this, worrying that he was going to end up with an infection or something. Last week I started taking him into the bathroom in his classroom to go potty when I go there to pick him up. He would go instantly, but tell his teachers that he didn't need to go, or that he couldn't go. So he has been messing with them, too. Today when I got there to pick him up, Ms. Kim was very excited to tell me that he DID go in the potty today, but that he had also gone a little in his pants first. I do not care about that one, I'm just happy that he actually went to the bathroom at school!! Hopefully that continues, and he'll start letting his teachers know he has to potty before he goes in his pants.

More on Luke's Lingo
I added a few more sayings to Luke's Lingo.
Whenever we tell him we're going to do something, or eat something, or go somewhere, that he doesn't like, his response is, "Weeeeellll, no tanks." (Well, no thanks). He really draws out the "well". I guess at least he is using his manners.
He loves to take showers. He hasn't taken baths in months now. Whenever he gets out of the shower, we always ask him if he's had a good shower. Now if he sees one of us after we've taken a shower, he'll ask us, "Mommy, good shower?" or "Dadd, good shower?" Sometimes he'll tell me before I get a chance to ask that he's had a "good shower."
He started saying "that hurt me" after I spanked his bottom one day. After he stopped crying, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, that hurt me." Now he lets us know anytime he is "hurt". Especially if it's at Lily's hand. Or paw.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Watching Party
The episode of Extreme Makeover that Ken Man Plumbing participated in aired last Sunday, October 18th.
The Westin Galleria in Dallas hosted a watching party for the family, as well as all of the companies who volunteered to build the house in 160 hours. Nate and I were fortunate to be able to attend. Luckily my parents live about 5 minutes from there so we dropped Luke off to spend time with Mammie and Boppa while we watched the show.
We got to listen to Lt. Marshall speak and it was really nice to hear how grateful he is for this new house.

It was really cool to see everything come together. I was very glad I wore my waterproof mascara because parts of the show were tearjerkers! We never saw anyone from Ken Man on TV (probably because most of them would see the camera and take off in another direction) but Nate plumbed the master shower and he was pretty excited to point it out to me. We were out there when the family came home (remember this post?) and as they scanned the crowd, you can see Nate's sister Hannah taking pictures. But you have to look close and know who you're looking for!

Halloween Cookies
Last week I was craving homemade sugar cookies AND I found some cute Halloween cookie cutters in the dollar section at Target. So we made some cookies!
Luke helped cut out some of the bats.
He also stole his first bite of cookie dough. He looks like the Cookie Dough Monster.
And then he helped decorate with orange and black sprinkles.
I have to add this picture. It looks really strange, but there is a cute story to go with it.
We were watching the Texas/OU game (one of the only games where I wish it was possible for both teams to lose) and they were showing some Fair Park sights, including the ferris wheel. If you remember from my State Fair post, Luke LOVED the ferris wheel when we went to the fair. Well he saw the ferris wheel on tv and started waving to it (that's what he's doing in the picture). As he was waving, he was hollering at the tv, "Hi, ferris wheel! I'm making cookies!" like it was his BFF that he hadn't talked to in awhile. Nate and I were rolling, it was so funny. Our kid is just so cute!

Polar Bear Territory
I found the CUTEST shirt at Kohl's two weeks ago. It's perfect for two reasons:
1. Luke loves polar bears right now because there have been some polar bears on a few episodes of Little Einsteins.
2. The polar bear is the mascot of Frost High School, where Luke's uncle Jake is a freshman.
We drove down to Frost last Friday to watch Frost play Wortham. (Supposedly Leonard Davis of the Cowboys was there, but I don't know if that is true. I didn't even know who that was until this week.)

I'm Baaaack!
So for the past almost-month, I have not been able to get on Blogger, or any Google website for that matter. My computer got one of those viruses where it makes you think you have 30-something viruses, but it is just a scam to get you to pay for "security software". This "security software" is, according to an article I read on Yahoo!, the new form of cybercrime. Thankfully I am smarter than the average bear (sometimes) and did NOT enter my credit card number. Instead, I had Nate's uncle Joel come get it off my computer.
The bad part was that afterwards, none of the Google websites worked. All my blog entries from the State Fair on were done from Nate's computer. I would upload the pics to Photobucket, turn his computer on, and post to Blogger. That worked for a couple weeks, until his computer started running slower and he kicked me off. :( So I'd been going through major withdrawls. Even being able to get on Nate's computer just didn't do it for me - I couldn't just hop and and post whatever was on my mind, or a Luke story of the day. It was a sad, sad three weeks, y'all.
My neighbor Jamie took pity on me and talked to her brother, who is a computer whiz. He figured out what was wrong, and we fixed it! So I'm back. And better than ever. Ha.

Halloween Preview
Luke's Halloween costume came in yesterday! We tried it on and he look so adorable. At first he didn't want to put it on, but once he saw himself in the mirror, he didn't want to take it off.

Weekday Night Guests
Beth and Justin have been in town for two weeks, completing their externships for vet school. The first two weeks Beth was working at a clinic in Grapevine (about 40 minutes to one hour north of us, depending on what time of day you are driving) and Justin has been working at a clinic in Alvarado (about 30 minutes south of us no matter what time of day you are driving). Beth has been staying with my mom and dad and Justin has been staying at an apartment next to the vet clinic. The past two Wednesdays they have met up at our house to break up a long week of not seeing each other.
We have all enjoyed seeing them more, but I think Luke has been the most excited. He loves having his Bee and Justin around. He told me on Tuesday "Mommy, I'm ready." When I asked him what he was ready for, he said, "Bee and Justin coming." He has loved having the extra attention and views them as his playmates for the evening. Mommy and Daddy are chopped liver when they are around!
After dinner on Wednesday, he wanted them to play baseball with him. He grabbed his glove, gave Beth a ball, and squatted down to catch a throw from her. Beth asked him why he was squatting, and his response was, "catch like Pudge". (I LOVE THIS KID!!)
Luke quickly grew bored with being the catcher, so he gave Beth that job. Then he handed Justin the bat and grabbed the ball to be the pitcher.
Justin was too tall to hit Luke's pitches so he ended up just playing catch with Beth.
The next two weeks Beth and Justin will both be working at the clinic in Alvarado, which means more overnights are in our future. This is making us all excited at the possibility of them moving back to the metroplex after graduation!

It's Hard Being Two
Luke is a sharp little boy. It absolutely amazes me what he will come up with.
He always gets a snack when he wakes up from his nap. On Monday, he caught a glimpse of a banana on the counter and asked for it. I will always give him fruit if he asks for it - much better than Goldfish! So I started cutting up the banana for him.
Well, the pantry door was open and he saw a package of marshmallows in there. So then he asked for marshmallows. I told him he could have some marshmallows after he ate all of his banana.
He seemed fine with it. Ate all but two big chunks of banana (so about 3/4 of it). Then he asked for marshmallows. I told him he could have the marshmallows when all the banana was gone, so he needed to eat the remaining pieces. He walks into the kitchen with his bowl, is in there for a minute, then came back out to show me an empty bowl.
I walked into the kitchen to find the banana in Lily's food bowl. I guess he thought she would eat it before I could find it, and he knew that if I did find it, I wouldn't make him eat it after it had been in her bowl. Super sharp kid if you ask me.
Super disappointed kid, too, because I wouldn't give him the marshmallows. He didn't eat all the banana so he didn't live up to his end of the bargain. He was not happy.

Picture Update
My computer got a weird virus last week and ever since Nate's uncle Joel fixed it for me, none of my Google websites have been working. Not really sure what that is all about, but it makes it very hard to update the blog because I have to do it on Nate's computer. And he doesn't like me on his computer very much! So I've uploaded a few new pics to my Photobucket account on my computer and now I'm on Nate's computer to post them!
Luke's latest obsession is our umbrella. We've had a lot of rainy days in the last month. He gets so excited when it is raining and we have to go somewhere because that means we have to take the umbrella! Last Thursday evening it started raining when we got home and he wanted to stay outside with the umbrella. He looked so cute walking around the driveway with it!
He even likes holding the umbrella when it is bright and sunny out!
